Assistant Professor (m/f/d)
(comparable to salary grade W 1 LBesG with tenure track to W2)
of Computer-Aided Systems Medicine
The future holder of the position is expected to have the potential to represent the field of computer-aided systems medicine in research and teaching (including further scientific training). The position is located in the Clinical Epi-demiology and Systems Medicine unit at the Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis and is part of the research focus DIASyM, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Since the position involves the leadership of a junior research group (1 post-doc, 2 PhD students) and interdisciplinary collaboration with academic and industrial partners, the ability to cooperate, first experience in staff management as well as networking skills are required.
The scientific tasks of the advertised position include the development, implementation and application of computer-aided systems medicine approaches to study the heart failure syndrome. This encompasses the application of ma-chine learning techniques to multidimensional data as well as the integration of available knowledge (such as path-way analyses) with the aim of developing knowledge-based, mechanistic models. Extensive expertise in omics data analysis (such as molecular data, but also image data), data integration, systems-based biomedical research proce-dures, and biological data interpretation is therefore expected. In addition, excellent knowledge of biology or (bio)medicine and statistics is required. Experience in the analysis of human cohort studies and background knowledge in applying the above methods to issues related to cardiovascular diseases is considered an advantage. Relevant expertise must be evidenced through academic achievements (publications and acquisition of third-party funding).
Furthermore, the professor is expected to teach courses in the master's degree programs Epidemiology and Biomed-icine. It is also possible to teach courses in the medicine program. For this, German language proficiency is required. In the context of the Mainz Research School of Translational Biomedicine (TransMed), we expect the future holder of the position to be actively involved in the promotion of young researchers in the field of natural sciences and medi-cine. Teaching competence according to § 54 sentence 1, no. 2 of the Hochschulgesetz Rheinland- Pfalz (HochSchG) is therefore required.
Applicants must meet all general legal requirements as well as those laid out in § 54 of the HochSchG. In addition, the requirements according to § 55 HochSchG apply.
The position constitutes a private law employment relationship to the University Medical Center of Johannes Guten-berg University Mainz. The professorship will initially be filled for a period of six years. In the fourth year, an evalua-tion of the performance level will provide orientation for the rest of the six-year period. After the junior professorship, the position will be converted to a tenured professorship (W2 LBesG), provided the holder of the position meets the relevant regulations of higher education law (evaluation procedure) as well as the general legal requirements. If the successful applicant already holds a permanent civil servant position, the employment status may be continued ac-cording to § 20 section 2 Universitätsmedizingesetz.
