The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health, invites applications for an Electrophysiologist at the Alberta Health Services-Edmonton Zone and the Division of Cardiology. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world's top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada's premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.
The University of Alberta's Division of Cardiology is an integral part of the Department of Medicine and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, a state-of-the-art facility that provides secondary and tertiary cardiac care services for the City of Edmonton, Northern Alberta,
and parts of British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut, Northwest Territories and portions of Saskatchewan. It has one of the largest heart transplant programs in Canada and is the only heart institute in the country providing care for both pediatric and adult patients. Two pediatric electrophysiologists are also part of the institute and interact with the adult group and a large adult congenital heart disease program. Three state of the art EP labs exist making the Institute one of the best-equipped facilities in North America. Other defining features include a large imaging research center (ABACUS) which is available for clinical and basic science research.
The successful candidate will join a group of 36 cardiologists including 5 other Electrophysiologists. Candidates must be appropriately trained in a recognized electrophysiology program and be proficient in all aspects of device implantation, (including SICD procedures), resynchronization, device management, complex and non-complex intervention ablation procedures. Innovation and a focus on clinical research are desired attributes for the successful candidate .Clinical duties will include equitable EPS lab time for device implantation and EPS procedures, shared electrophysiology consultation service and night call amongst six electrophysiologists, device, inherited arrhythmia, and electrophysiology clinics, limited general cardiology inpatient service and general cardiology triage service. Equitable sharing of the Division of Cardiology's teaching mandate will be expected.
