IRCCS ISMETT is a multi-organ transplant center and high-specialty acute care hospital. The Cardiology Unit is part of the UPMC International Heart and Vascular Service Line and is involved in an advanced program for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, which includes: advanced refractory heart failure care with heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support devices such as ECMO and VAD; a complete interventional cardiac surgery and cardiology program for the treatment of cardiac and vascular diseases using the most modern mini-invasive and trans-catheter techniques; an advanced, non-invasive cardiovascular imaging program (at rest and stress echocardiography, transesophageal and 3D echo, myocardial scintigraphy, CT scan, MRI, etc.). A cath lab and a hybrid room support a remarkable diagnostic (coronarography, right catheterization, myocardial biopsies, etc.) and interventional (coronary angioplasty, advanced structural interventional procedures such as TAVI, Mitraclip, etc.) activity. IRCCS ISMETT is part of Italy's national cardiology network and is fully integrated with the Ri.MED Foundation, conducting collaborative research on computational modeling and biomechanical valve research projects. The Ri.MED Foundation is currently building the Biomedical Research and Biotechnology Center (BRBC) that, when fully operational, will host over 600 researchers.

 

At IRCCS ISMETT, more than 1,000 patients every year are treated with conventional and interventional cardiac surgery procedures. Over 8,000 outpatient echocardiograms and over 2,400 outpatient consults are also performed every year.

IRCCS ISMETT has the most advanced diagnostic technologies for non-invasive cardiac imaging (3T MRI, dual source and dual energy CT scan, etc.) and advanced research laboratories (GMP facility, biobank, experimental laboratories). Cardiac services are anticipated to grow with the current design and anticipated opening of ISMETT 2 in 2025, which will double the hospital size.

 

The selected candidate will promote, develop, and direct clinical services, provide leadership to the cardiology unit, assist with training of junior doctors, create national and international research networks, interact with UPMC and University of Pittsburgh colleagues, and collaborate with researchers of the Ri.MED Foundation.

 

Requisites:

·     Degree in Medicine and Surgery recognized in Italy, or equivalent title.

·     Postgraduate diploma in Cardiology recognized in Italy, or equivalent title.

·     Enrollment in the professional board.

·     At least 5 years of experience in the clinical management of cardiac diseases and heart failure, in Italy or abroad..

·     Scientific production in the field of cardiology rated with the H-index (to be specified in the CV).

·     Past experience in the management of staff of simple or complex operating units.

·     Compliance with mandatory vaccination for the prevention of SARS-CoV-2 infection referred to in art. 4 and 4-ter of Decree-law 44/2021 (without prejudice to unenforceability of the vaccination obligation resulting from a confirmed risk for personal health due to specific, documented clinical conditions reported by the general practitioner, in compliance with the memorandum issued by the Italian Ministry of Health on exemptions from the vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 obligation, as provided for by art. 4, para. 2, Decree-law 44/2021).

 

Excellent knowledge of English, educational/professional experience abroad, leadership and problem-solving ability, and good interpersonal, communication and team working skills are also instrumental to the role.

 

The contract offered will be commensurate with the experience and skills of the selected candidate.

 

The workplace is Palermo.
